10 Empowering Songs All Women Need to Have in Their Playlist

I once heard that the type of music someone enjoys describes the type of person they are or what they're going through. Personally I've always been a huge fan of Ariana Grande, her songs have helped me through my worse days and has uplifted me whenever I'm feeling confident. And just like Ariana Grande, many singers write songs about social issues and how it relates to their own life.

I've always believed that every women should have an empowerment playlist because sometimes we can feel unworthy or weak just because society tells us we aren't good enough. And some songs are a MUST when creating a playlist:

1. Run the World (Girls) - Beyoncé

Beyoncé wrote this song as a women empowerment anthem. Her purpose is for girls to listen to this and feel fierce and strong. Feeling grateful to be a women. If you see the music video it is set in a war zone (which is an environment for men to fight), but here Beyoncé demonstrates women fighting, stating that women and men can both fight. Essentially ignoring societal views.

2. successful - Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande has always demonstrated women empowerment. Not only is she one of the most successful pop stars but she consistency speaks on social issues. And this song preaches that all women are able to be successful. It's a celebration of all women who work hard in order to make a living. Making it that women are allowed to be ambitious.

3. Independent Women, Pt. 1 - Destiny's Child

THIS IS SUCH A THROW BACK! First and foremost Destiny's child wrote this song for the movie Charlie's Angels. And this songs really depicts women empowerment, highlighting that women do not need men to provide for what they want. They can pay for themselves and depend on themselves to make a living.

4. Scars To Your Beautiful - Alessia Cara

This song is not only targeted towards women and how their beauty shouldn't define them, it is targeted towards anyone who has faced oppression. Alessia Cara goes on to show video clips of people talking about their experiences with beauty and finding their worth. It is truly a beautiful song to encourage people that they are beautiful in all aspects.

5. Girl Can't Be Herself - Alicia Keys

Who doesn't love the work of Alicia Keys? Because she is always singing about real issues and feeling empowered as a women. And this song just adds to that as she discusses the industry of makeup. Specifically, stating that sometimes our insecurities are covered by the makeup we wear. But she doesn't target her audience to not wear makeup, instead she sings about finding our worth and our identity as women. Not hiding behind makeup and embracing what we have. More importantly, building self esteem.

6. Can't Hold Us Down - Christina Aguilera

This song is such a bop!! Really one of the first women anthem songs, speaking upon feminism and the fact that it's okay to stand up for yourself as a women. Aguilera goes on to sing about women and how they are looked down upon whenever they stand up for themselves. But then goes on to say that women should never stay quiet and speak up whenever there's an issue.

7. Girl on Fire - Alicia Keys

This song used to be such a hit! It was everywhere and so many people would sing it, really helped women in society feel empowered. Alicia Keys is known for singing songs that uplift women. And Girl on Fire happens to be one of them. This song illustrates the arts of a woman. Specifically how much a woman should value herself and feel empowered for all the work they have done.

8. God is a women - Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande truly never disappoints. A lot of her music stems from her own experiences and insecurities. And this specific song just struck out to me because she's not only speaking about herself being a god but women being gods as well. Stating that women can do much and are able to achieve so much, that we are practically Gods. And if you haven't already watch her VMAs performance because it was truly so powerful.

9. Respect - Aretha Franklin

Being a woman of color and trying to be successful through an industry that is white dominated, Aretha Franklin really had to work hard for everything she got. And this song specifically being one of her greatest. But it's so interesting that she sings about respect, more specifically respecting women. And it was common that women were oppressed during this time for not having the same abilities as a man. They were expected to cook and stay home while men are suppose to the the bread winner. This song become a legend as it is still spoken of till this day.

10. Good As Hell - Lizzo

Lizzo is known for singing about body positivty and self-love all around. Specifically Good As Hell is a song that makes women feel like they are beautiful and they don't need a man to feel beautiful. She sings about getting glammed up and just feeling good about herself. Lizzo is one of those artists that wants her audience to feel just as good about themselves as she felt while writing these songs. Hoping to create a community of empowered women.
